Historian and anthropologist María José Noain Maura presents Women in the History of Art, an essay that explores the presence of women in art —not only as creators but also as objects of representation throughout history.
Structured thematically, the book delves into topics such as the female nude, painting techniques, artistic education, access to professionalization, the domestic sphere, motherhood, and many other aspects related to the place of women in the art world. The work is enriched with a careful selection of the lives and works of some of the most outstanding women artists in history.
María José Noain Maura, deeply committed to heritage and culture, has an extensive background in History, Archaeology, and Anthropology. She has taken part in archaeological excavations in iconic locations such as Pompeii and was head of activities and communications at the Roman Museum Oiasso in Irun for over a decade. In 2019, she launched Los Viajes de Aspasia, a project that combines education, outreach, and cultural creation from a critical and gender-conscious perspective.
The book, published by Principal de los Libros, is now available in bookstores.
